Five multiple-choice sections with four answer choices each: 298 questions in all. The test is published by Scholastic Testing Service (STS).

Section times are published by STS. Question counts per section come from test-prep sources and add up to STS's published total. Schools may add optional science or religion tests. Dates, fees and rules are set by each school or diocese, so check with the schools you're applying to.
Test-day tips
These follow the advice STS gives students and families.
- Read each question and its directions carefully.
- Don't spend too long on one question. Skip it, flag it, and come back.
- Never leave an answer blank. Your score is the number you get right, with no penalty for wrong answers, so guess when unsure.
- Use scratch paper to work things out. Calculators are not allowed on the Mathematics subtest.
- If time is left at the end, go back and check your answers.
